VIRTUAL EXHIBIT AT YELLOW HOUSE

When the pandemic hit, Yellow House had just opened their exhibit MAGIC, MIRTH, AND MORTALITY: Musings On Black Motherhood and I was approached about creating a virtual exhibit that would somehow be more than just putting images on a website. Working closely with Hope McMath, the director at Yellow House, I came up with the idea of taking the journal entries, which were an integral visual part of the exhibit, and turning them into audio recordings able to be listened to while viewing the accompanying artwork. I’d already created the marketing image for the in-person show – which incorporated one of artist Tatiana Kitchen’s paintings – and the task was to use the aesthetic from that, as well as the ambiance of the exhibit, and find a way to bring it to life online. To create a website that felt like an extension of attending a Yellow House exhibit.

Below are a few samples from the site but I hope you’ll take a few moments and go view this exquisite show.
